Steel Magnolias

Steel Magnolias was my stage management debut while I interned for Weathervane Playhouse (Newark, OH) in the summer of 2022. What made this experience unique for me was that this was my first time running two shows at once. During the day, I was stage managing Steel Magnolias and in the evenings, I was the assistant stage manager for 9 to 5 Weathervane’s first musical of the summer. More than anything, this experience taught me how to manage my own well-being without falling victim to burnout while still leading a team and completing my various duties. Furthermore, the show itself often reminded me to cherish every moment, and to look for the positive side of any situation.

This production has a special place in my heart not only because it was my first time stage managing a production, but also because the small cast size allowed our team (both cast and production) to form a unique bond during rehearsals that carried over into performances. Though it wasn’t the most technically heavy show, it served as a solid introductory production that ended up training me well for my next show, the more technically complex Murder on the Orient Express.
